Description
Very early tightly woven Tlingit berry-water basket with animal hide/skin probably deer hide loops for running sinew/twine through for easy carrying. Surely made in the 1800’s, which is early for anything in this condition used for utilitarian purposes by the Alaska natives in southeast Alaska. Think about the years of use this basket has had and the berries, spruce tips, water, etc., that it may have carried. If only baskets could talk, I’m sure this would be full of history and interesting stories. The basket has heavy soiling, but has never been cleaned. There is no mold or fungus and it is in perfect original condition. Comes with the original hang tag from an early estate/auction. Please check out my other great and rare Alaskan auctions.
