History of Horseheads: Horse skulls were found in great number following John Sullivan's 1779 raid on the Iroquois Indians as ordered by General George Washington. A breakdown in the food supply was responsible for the malnutrition and sad disposal of a multitude of the troops' horses. When the Iroquois later came upon the skulls, they arranged them along the trail and called the area, "The Valley of the Horses' Heads."
Salvaged at the site of a Victorian Home in Western New York when a chimney was removed.
