    Description

BEAUTIFUL Thompson River Salish Covered Basket w handles, ca 1920
A beautiful lidded basket- Thompson River Salish. Hand woven polychrome basket with beautiful woven patterns, and 2 handles.
    Thompson River Salish People
The Nlaka'pamux or (pronounced Nlakapamuk, commonly called "the Thompson", and also Thompson River Salish, Thompson Salish, Thompson River Indians or Thompson River people are an indigenous First Nations/Native American people of the Interior Salish language group in southern British Columbia. Their traditional territory includes parts of the North Cascades region of Washington.
This is a beautiful basket. There are minor areas of rim damage under the lid, and a corner has been patched with a piece of leather- I chose not to try to remove it, but it feels as if there is very minor damage under the patch. It looks like whoever owned it previously had roller painted with latex and there are tiny droplets of paint on the top- they come off easily but I chose to display it as is. It displays beautifully.
I purchased this beautiful basket in 2007 from Allard Auctions for 9. It is a BEAUTIFUL basket.
