    Description

Up for grabs is a beautiful Northern California basket attributed to the POMO.  Coiled basket on three-rod foundation and tightly woven, about 5 coils per inch.  I am not sure exactly when this basket was made, but definitely prior to 1935.  It is about 12" in diameter X 6.25" height. Tightly woven and decorated with disc shaped beads cut from clam shell.  (3 groups of beads equally spaced around the top.  Each group is composed of 4 beads, except one bead is missing in one group.)  Previous owner identified the black dyed stitches to be dye from bull rush root, which is still quite dark an well dyed.  There may be some color variation in background color - (Subtle, but mentioning for accuracy.)  Some missing stitches overall - overall very nice presentation.
I have read that this basket form may be a baby washing or laundry washing basket as also revealed in an E. S Curtis photo.
    Obviously, look closely at images.
    Thanks for looking.
