Description
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF AN EARLY NATIVE AMERICAN "POMO" BASKET, COILED WITH A DIAMOND MOTIF OF DARK PINE, AT FIRST GLANCE IT APPEARS AS HORSE HAIR(TAIL) IN THE DIAMONDS, BUT I BELIEVE THEY ARE PINE NEEDLES. SOME OF THE DESIGN HAS WORE OFF FROM AGE, THE BASKET ITSELF HAS A VERY TIGHT WEAVE AND IS VERY STURDY AND HOLDS ITS SHAPE. THERE IS EVIDENCE THERE WAS AN ATTACHED LID AT ONE TIME, THE HINGED LOOP IS STILL ATTACHED. THIS IS A VERY LARGE EXAMPLE 16" W X 6" H. IT REMINDS ME OF A SNAKE BASKET IN ITS SHAPE. I WAS HONORED WITH SEVERAL "POMO" BASKETS FROM AN ESTATE DESLOVEMENT. THIS BASKET SHAPE IS SEEN LESS AND LESS THESE DAYS. I AM STARTING THIS AUCTION LOW AS TO GIVE MORE A CHANCE TO OWN THIS SUPURB EXAMPLE OF NATIVE AMERICAN POMO BASKET CULTURE . I MAY INCLUDE FREE SHIPPING DEPENDING ON AMOUNT OF SALE.
