The included shin etsu thermal paste is used for the cpu.
Thermal paste for the gpu shim kit is not included and is required to install the shim kit.  You will need to have your own thermal paste.

If your heatsink does not make contact after removing the stock thermal glue your cpu will overheat with normal thermal paste.
Included is Shin Etsu thermal putty which is a thermal solution for applications with small gaps.  This is a silicone nanoclay based thermal interface material(TIM) which conducts heat thru itself(while filling a gap) and will not dry up over time causing the cpu to overheat like other TIM solutions may.
