Description
Today you have the opportunity to own a one of a kind brick from the no longer existing Coral Court Motel on the Historic Route 66 Highway in Saint Louis, MO. It was built in the early 1940's as the highway was really starting to take ahold of the imagination and vacation spirit of the American people. By the 1980's the interstate highway system had taken hold and Route 66 was sadly decommissioned as an official highway. By 1993 the motel had fallen into such disrepair it closed and in 1995 it was demolished to make way for a 45 home subdivision. These bricks were discovered in a backyard about 20 miles away from the motel site and 15 whole years after the demolition in 2010. I have held on to them planning to do something with them but just cannot find the time. Although there are some dings and chips the bricks are in surprisingly good condition. The dimensions are 12" x 5" x 3.75" and weigh 12 lbs. Would make a great mantel piece, coffee table curiosity, or even a door stop! You will receive one brick from this pallet as shown in the 2nd picture, I will just grab from the stack. Each individual one will be hand cleaned before packing and shipping to remove any last remaining dust or dirt. Some may have some mortar on them or stubborn dirt after cleaning and this will not be removed to preserve the authenticity of the brick. I have not seen another one of these bricks anywhere for sale locally or nationally so they are indeed rare and a limited quantity are left in existence.
The pictures shown of individual bricks are just for representation and each individual brick will have different chips and dings, etc. I can assure you that you will be satisfied. I can even send you a picture or two of the brick you will be getting for you to approve before shipping. Want more than one or all of them? Please inquire about special pricing:)
Lastly, how do I know they are from the Coral Court. The home where these were recovered lived a gentleman who worked for Spirtas, the wrecking company that tore down the motel. Also I did a lot of research regarding dimensions, where they were made and comparing these to a brick I acquired during the demolition myself back in 1995. Everything matches. The local Museum of Transportion also has these bricks for a display they have and they match these as well. I can 100% guarantee that these are from the Coral Court Motel.
